Teaching Politics in English Class
Methods and Materials for Success

Inhalt

Politics is an important and recurring topic of the curriculum in upper-level English classes, and it can often lead into tricky territory. How should we talk about politics in the English classroom? How can I use political discussions and controversies to advance language learning? What can go wrong? This course provides insights and materials for planning successful lessons on political topics in English. We will learn how to engage students with the power of controversial issues and what methods we can emply to teach them in a compelling way. We will cover topics such as Black Lives Matter, Brexit, climate change and immigration, and discuss proven lesson designs for grappling with them in English. In doing so, we will develop a systematic approach to enliven and invigorate the language learning in our English classroom.
